The ’technical nonwovens’ umbrella encompasses an incredibly diverse range of products suitable for use in a whole host of applications, including:

To strengthen our nonwovens for these and many other purposes, we rely on the ‘Malimo process’ that was first developed in East Germany.

Company history From VEB Cottana to Cottano Vlieswerk GmbH
Cottano Vlieswerk GmbH can look back on a dynamic corporate history spanning over 50 years. Explore some of our key milestones on the journey from the publicly-owned enterprise of the German Democratic Republic to the modern, global textile supplier we know today.

Founding of the company
The company has its origins back in 1972, when this publicly-owned enterprise in Mühlhausen, Thuringia, was still known as ‘VEB Cottana Mühlhausen’. In these early years, the company operated as a cotton combine and was part of the ‘Association of Publicly-Owned Enterprises for Cotton’ in the German Democratic Republic.

Rebrand to Cottano Vlieswerk GmbH
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, entrepreneur Dieter Perick took over VEB Cottana Mühlhausen and renamed the company in 1992 to what we now know as Cottano Vlieswerk GmbH. The company flourished over the next three decades, asserting itself as a technological leader with a wide range of products and applications.

Acquisition of VTT Vliestextilien
In 2008, the company acquired VTT Vliestextilien GmbH. This was a move that saw Perick Management GmbH strengthen its expertise and capacities in the production of stitchable nonwovens under one roof. The sister company of Cottano Vlieswerk GmbH, also based in Thuringia, is renamed PMG Vliestext GmbH.

Takeover by Coroplast Group
Discussions to expand the partnership had been ongoing for some time on account of the long-standing and close collaboration between Dieter Perick and Coroplast Group. Following the untimely passing of Dieter Perick, Coroplast Group made the decision to acquire Cottano Vlieswerk GmbH and PMG Vliestex GmbH in July 2023, securing the future of these legacy businesses.
